2020 State of Software Engineers survey conducted by hired.com included an interesting question.

53% respondents prefer work at home totally rather than come in the office every day. Under this pandemic situation, home office seems more reasonable than ever. With the right tools for remote teams, such as Zoom for communication and ZenTao ALM for team collaboration, SOHO might be common for work commuters.

The report also includes questions beyond the realm of technologies, such as the type of music and coffee that developers find fuel their productivity most. Electronic and dance music are the top 1 choice without doubt. You might have seen programmers wearing headsets and playing loud music in a lot movies, so rock music comes to the second place as the top three types of music that they enjoy while working. The third place is classical music, which is quite different from the . The reason might be that classical is classical.

Then what they prefer to drink to fuel their work? Coffee is definitely the first choice. Black coffee are 38% of the respondents' choice, followed by tea with 29%. Lattes, Cappuccino, and Espresso are 14%, 9%, and 8% respectively. Soylent is quite new compared with coffee and tea, the traditional energetic drinks. It is a meal replacement and contains fat, carbs, protein and fiber.

The survey went further to study how much caffeine a developer consume. The top goes up to five and more cups per day and 40% of the caffeine consumers drink one cup per day. 32% of the respondents drink two cups per day and 18%, three cups. For developers who drink four cups and more, the percentage is comparatively lower.
