Summary : This section introduces the project matrix feature, detailing how it provides horizontal and vertical traceability for stories throughout their lifecycle. It explains how to use the matrix to track relationships between business, user, and standard stories, as well as their related tasks, designs, test cases, commits, and bugs.

Feature introduction

The story traceability matrix illustrates the relationships between different stories, such as user stories and standard stories derived from business stories. It allows you to view the progress of standard stories and their related items, including tasks, test cases, and bugs. Product Managers need to continuously track story changes. They can grasp the detailed progress of stories by checking the status of related items directly within the matrix.

Usage scenarios

After a planning meeting, stories are linked to the project's iterations or phases to enter the development workflow. Using the story traceability matrix tool, you can achieve full lifecycle traceability for stories:

  • Horizontal tracking: A single business story can be broken down into one or more user stories. A user story can be further broken down into one or multiple standard stories. Through the matrix, you can establish and view clear statuses and relationships among business stories, user stories, and standard stories.
  • Vertical tracking: The entire process is traceable via story IDs and detail pages. This traceable workflow includes collecting user stories, breaking them down into standard stories, reviewing stories, changing stories, linking stories to designs, linking stories to test cases, breaking stories down into tasks, completing task development, submitting bugs against stories, and releasing stories online.

Click Matrix under the project menu to trace the linked items of project stories:

  • Business stories to user stories
  • User stories to standard stories
  • Related tasks broken down from stories
  • Related designs created for stories
  • Related test cases created for stories
  • Related code commits for stories
  • Related bugs generated from stories

2. Switch product views

If the project is linked to multiple products, the project matrix allows you to switch between products. This helps you track stories under a specific product individually.

3. Filter by story type

The project matrix supports tracking from three dimensional starting points: business stories, user stories, and standard stories. You can also use the search function to filter specific stories for precise tracking.

5. Customize form columns

The project matrix allows you to customize the tracking columns. You can uncheck linked items that you do not need to track, and these unchecked columns will be hidden from the matrix.

Notes: * If you check the "Apply to Global" option, the current user's settings will take effect across all systems within the organization.

Clicking "Restore Default" will revert the columns to their initial state.
