Sanplex provides a Hybrid Waterfall project management model that extends standard Waterfall project management by also supporting sprints and Kanban boards within the same project. Teams can choose the most suitable approach based on actual needs.

I. Create a Hybrid Waterfall Project

When creating a project, go to the Project Management Mode page and select Hybrid Waterfall.

Fill in the required information and click Save to create the Hybrid Waterfall project.

II. Manage Top-Level Phases

In a Hybrid Waterfall project, you first define the top-level phases. Top-level phases cannot be created as sprints or boards. Their setup works the same way as in a standard Waterfall project.

After the project is created, the system automatically opens the phase setup page.

• Under Phase Type, you can choose from General, Requirements, Design, Development, Test, Release, and Review. Different phase types provide different feature sets.
• To reduce setup effort, you can configure a default template in Admin > Model Configuration > Hybrid Waterfall Model > Phase List based on your team's needs.
• Phases at the same level can be reordered.

III. Manage Subphases

Subphases in a Hybrid Waterfall project support both sprints from Agile projects and boards from Kanban projects.

Click Create Subphase in the action column to open the subphase creation page.

In the upper-left corner of the creation page, you can choose to continue creating a phase, or create a sprint or board instead.

Sprints and boards cannot be further broken down into another level.

V. Key Differences

Sprints and boards in a Hybrid Waterfall project include an additional Phase Type setting, and the available features vary by phase type.

The phase type of a sprint or board inherits the type of its parent phase, except when the parent phase type is General. If the parent phase is General, the child type is not restricted.

• Requirements and Review types do not include Development Requirements, Test, Code, or Release features.
• Design type does not include Test, Code, Docs, or Release features.
